Shanu Badrudhin: Age: 4 years old: Shanu loves to eat constantly. He is a troublemaker and eats everyone’s lunch at school because he eats his on the bus to nursery school. His favorite food is chicken. He has a quick, big smile, and loves to have fun. Shanu was born into a Muslim family in the Delhi slums. Though his parents live together, his father coerces his mother to work as a prostitute. He says he will leave his wife if she stops, so she has been “working” like this for four years. However, his father, who is almost forty years old, has also married another girl—who is nineteen. Shanu’s father has a government job and is addicted to alcohol and gambling. He has abused Shanu physically, and makes drunken phone calls to Asha House, threatening to withdraw Shanu’s sisters so they can work as prostitutes as well. He lives at Asha House with his three sisters, Heena, Nazma, and Rukshana. Prayer Request: For Shanu’s mother and family. Asha is worried that Shanu’s mother will take them and leave Delhi in attempt to avoid her husband’s abuse and threats to subject his daughters to prostitution.
